Why does culture end up being the last thing management things about when building a company. I know that there are companies out there that operate in the way Peter Theil suggest Zappos, Under Armour, Nike, AirBnB etc…but more often than not culture is an afterthought.
It is a shame because if you take a poll and ask potential “hires” what they look for in a company Culture is usually near the top of the list along with challenging work and the ability to make a difference. You never hear process, salary, rules, etc…its just not that way anymore.
If companies want to truly not only attract but keep the best people then they need to get their heads out of the sand and start to pay attention to Culture…without a good one I am afraid you are doomed to mediocrity.
